The Black Keys Announce Additional US Tour Leg, Headline Lollapalooza

“…tremendous, hook-laden, all-killer-no-filler, by some distance the most powerful, compelling rock album of the year.” - Independent, *****

“Sometimes, a CD scratches an itch you didn’t even know you had, and El Camino is that record…It’s a summer record released in the winter, a dance record that just happens to rock…It’s a party record, a driving down the highway, ‘I’m in love with rock and roll, and I’ll be out all night’ record…Really, the only question is whether, this late in the year, this constitutes the best rock album of 2011 or 2012. It’ll probably be both.” - Los AngelesTimes

The Black Keys will extend their worldwide tour in support of El Camino with the addition of U.S. dates in October including the Staples Center in Los Angeles, the famed Santa Barbara Bowl and US Airways Center in Phoenix.Tegan and Sara will open the 8pm show. The first leg of the tour included sold-out shows at Chicago’s United Center, DC’s Verizon Center and two nights at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Of the live performances, the duo’s hometown paper, the Cleveland Plain Dealer said, “I’ve never known them to put on a bad show. And I’ve never witnessed them put on a better one than they did on this high-stakes occasion,” while Rolling Stone calls it, “their biggest, baddest tour ever.” After headlining Coachella earlier this year, the duo will also appear as the headlining act at the 2012 Lollapalooza festival (complete tour schedule on next page). Concert tickets and album packages are available at the band’s site. The Black Keys are teaming up with Tickets-for-Charity to offer fans access to some of the best seats in the house. Released December 6 on Nonesuch Records, El Camino was produced by Danger Mouse and The Black Keys and was recorded in the band’s new hometown of Nashville during the spring of 2011. The record debuted at #2 on the Billboard Top 200 and has already been certified RIAA Gold. The album’s first single, “Lonely Boy,” was released in October, and reached #1 on the Alternative and AAA charts; it also entered the top 10 at Rock radio. The second single, “Gold on the Ceiling” is currently in the top 5 at both Alternative and Triple A radio. See reverse for complete track list. In addition to El Camino’s success, the duo’s 2010 breakthrough album,Brothers, was recently certified RIAA Platinum.

In anticipation of the release, the duo joined Steve Buscemi on the December 2 episode of Saturday Night Live. This was the band’s second time in 2011 as musical guests on the show, a “rare distinction,” saysRolling Stone. Other recent television appearances include The Colbert Report and the Late Show with David Letterman. The band also recently graced the cover of Rolling Stone (January 19 issue).

Describing the sound of the album, drummer Patrick Carney tells Rolling Stone, “Every record, we figure out the mood and stick with that. WithBrothers, we were listening to a lot of hip-hop and old R&B and drawing from that. This is the first record we’ve made where it’s all rock & roll.” And in an interview with Spin Magazine Auerbach says, “I’ve never been into guitar solos. I really like when every instrument in the band is a rhythm instrument. This record has a lot of that going on—guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards all working together as a rhythm instrument. But unlikeBrothers, which has more of these slower songs with an open feeling, [the new LP] is definitely fast.”
