In November, 2006, the citizens of Arizona passed Proposition 201, The Smoke-Free Arizona Act. This statute prohibits smoking in most indoor public places took effect May 1, 2007.
While U.S. Airways Center as always been a smoke-free facility, to comply with this new ordinance, we are required to remove all ashtrays and prohibit smoking within 20-ft of all facility entry or exit doors. Furthermore, we must ensure that smoke does not make its way back into the building.
Listed below is a general breakdown on where our designated smoking areas are. Please keep in mind that these guidelines are subject to change in our ongoing efforts to comply with the ordinance.
For guests during events, this means:- Smoking on the plaza must take place beyond the light poles.
- Smoking is not allowed outside of the North doors.
- Smoking on the Paseo must take place beyond the white pillars and south of the East doors.
- Smoking is allowed at the base of the stairs near the South doors.
Complying with the ordinance is the responsibility of the organization and its employees. Non-compliance with this law can result in fines for either the individual or our company.
